APARU News

We are delighted to share with you the wonderful news that Professor Juan Carlos Kaski, Head of the Cardiovascular Sciences Research Centre at St George’s Hospital, London and former member of the Advisory Board of APARU has been awarded the prestigious RAICES prize.

The top RAICES award was set up by Argentina’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to honour scientists for their own work and major contribution in science, as well as for promoting Argentine scientists and research and education practices internationally.

Professor Kaski was chosen this year for his extensive research in the field of cardiovascular sciences, which has given him an international reputation, and for helping forge research links between Argentine universities and St George’s University of London, as well as other UK institutions.

Incidentally, the RAICES prize was awarded to him for the work that Professor Kaski presented in his brilliant and enjoyable talk "Investigación en Cardiología: Un Viaje por el Mundo de las Preguntas sin Respuestas" organized by APARU and the Argentine Embassy back in March 2008.

On behalf of myself and of the Association of Argentine Professionals in the UK, we warmly congratulate Juan Carlos for yet another impressive achievement along his trajectory through the world of questions without answers.

APARU is the Association of Argentine Professionals in the United Kingdom, a non-profit organization registered under the Central Registry Registry of Charities of England and Wales.

APARU provides direct support to organizations in Argentina which are mostly, small, rather invisible and lack access to regular financial sources, but they outstand for their strong social compromise to improve wellbeing, health and education of the poorests, most vulnerable and often neglected populations in Argentina. By bringing together the Argentine and other UK residents engaged in sciences, finance, medicine, arts, technology, law and other areas of kownledge, APARU offers a unique platform that promotes both, professional discussion, exchange and expression of ideas, as well as fundraising initiatives for projects in Argentina.

(10 February - 15 April 2012)

The first UK solo exhibition by Argentinian artist Irene Kopelman looks at how relationships to landscape and the natural world are culturally conditioned and subject to change. It includes a newly commissioned series of large-scale paintings of microfossils from Antartic plate presented alongside the installlation 'La morfoloia del paisaje determina sus visitas' (The Morphology of the Landscape Determines its Views, 2011) and a hand-made replica of a graphic telescope, an early 19th century optical instrument.
